Casio Men’s MQ24-7B Black Analog Watch

Watches never last long around my wrist. The bands shatter while I’m working or I crack the faces at clubs (I’m pretty sure I’d have been a great Eighties backup dancer). But that’s why I’m so impressed with the Casio Men’s MQ24-7B Black Analog Watch; it’s extremely durable, a great value, and loaded with understated style.
Casio describes this watch as a “casual classic,” which explains why American Apparel sells so many of them. The MQ24-7B screams (ticks?) stylish competence. The resin band and crystal face are tough and water-resistant but not bulky. In fact, since it weighs only 19 grams, I sometimes forget it’s even on my wrist. That is, until I have to check the time, which, since the white face practically glows in the dark, I can do anywhere. And because this watch is the perfect size (37.5 x 35 x 7.5mm) it doesn’t snag on my sleeves or inappropriately insert itself into conversations (there’s nothing worse than an accessory that gets too much attention, right?).
Have I mentioned cheap? Cheap! Though I purchased mine at American Apparel, I would recommend buying online at Amazon or the Casio website, where you can get the watch for somewhere between ten and twenty dollars. That’s the same amount you’d spend at one night at a bar or on a really good pair of socks. And honestly, after owning one, I would pay three times that amount. This watch is a ridiculously good deal.
But the truly great thing about this timepiece is that it’s a bargain workhorse, yes, but it’s a stylish bargain workhorse. Since it can easily be dressed either up or down, I’ve worn it to job interviews, to a bachelor party and while hiking. And I’m not alone in my love for this watch; I’ve seen it on male and female wrists in Los Angeles, Portland and Chicago (it always looked great). The Casio MQ24-7B is, frankly, a must-have item for anyone who works hard, plays hard, and enjoys looking good.
- Easy to read
- Non-intrusive size
- Casual style
- Great value
- Resin band could cause irritation on certain wrists (though not on mine)
- Utter lack of bling (if you’re into that)
- No toys (alarms, calendar functions, calculator functions, etc.)
Of course, Casio has been producing stylish watches (and some that are definitely not stylish) since 1974. There’s a huge selection to pick from and almost all are good values. Different color? Different size? Different finish? Casio has it under control. But my favorite is definitely the Men’s MQ24-7B Black Analog. A great price, a great style and the ability to go wherever I go; you can’t ask for more in a watch!
