Blanket with control

This blanket may just be the softest you've ever owned

For those of us who suffer from cold hands, feet, and everything in between during the long winter months, and for others who just enjoy the comfort of a cozy blanket, the Sunbeam MicroPlush Heated Electric Throw (model #TW8205-045-314) is an affordable way of keeping the chill at bay. Setup is quick and simple, and in just three easy steps (and under five minutes) all reminders of the freezing weather outside will begin to melt away.

Even though it is the most basic member of the Sunbeam family of heated blankets, this collection of throws is by far the easiest to use. With only one button to worry about, you can choose from three different heat settings without too much effort. The MicroPlush fabric does not only make this throw one of the softest blankets you will ever own, but it also warms nicely and evenly. The thickness of the material also plays a key role in ensuring that the “high” setting is not too hot, while still allowing you to feel some heat when set to “low”. Additional features include: a five-year limited warranty, three-hour auto-off, is machine washable and dryer safe, and comes in over ten colors and prints so you can relax according to your own personal style.

While an excellent source of comfort, this throw isn’t for everyone. Due to safety concerns, babies, children and people with restricted or impaired mobility are not advised to use this or any electrically heated bedding. One of the less serious issues I had with this product was its size. Measuring 50” x 60”, I found that the throw did not cover my feet if I stretched out too far (for a point of reference, I’m 5’9”). Also, keep in mind that the power cord is only about five feet long, so make note of the distance between the outlet and your couch or favorite chair. As a fairly new owner of one of these, I can’t speak from personal experience, but others have reported a relatively short lifespan and a slow deterioration of heat intensity sometimes beginning within a month of purchase.

To sum up the important stuff…

Pros:
• Heats quickly
• Doesn’t get too hot
• Super soft fabric
• Ease of use

Cons:
• Too small—tall people beware!
• Length of power cord
• Generally doesn’t last long

As one of the top brands for heated electric bedding, Sunbeam offers a variety of blankets such as the RoyalMink Blanket (model # BW1219-030-581), that can reach prices upwards of $230. While a more expensive alternative boasts larger size, additional settings and more extra features than the MicroPlush Heated Electric Throw, at their hearts both have the same essential purpose—keeping you warm. Available at Wal Mart for $29.88, this throw is not only worth its price, but it will also meet your needs without breaking the bank.
