Are you on the look-out for an e-reader that doubles as a similar device to the Ipad? Well here’s the thing for you! The Nook Color from Barnes & Noble provides over 2.5 million books, a myriad of games, magazines, newspapers and Android apps like angry birds and Pandora Radio.Nook Color with a Modern Art image on Screen

The Nook Color from Barnes & Noble utilizes a VividView™ 7″ touchscreen, and provides tablet basics like web and email, built-in Wi-Fi, 8GB memory, access to the Nookbook store and a microSD slot. The e-reader supports PDF, Word and ePub files; some video formats, audio and MP3 capabilities. The cool thing about Nook Color is that it’s smaller than an Ipad but functions like one. I have had mine for a few months and have found the wireless function really nice. This is my first eReader and my reason for purchasing this one over kindle is because I like color images over boring text any day. I was surprised to find that I get games, comics, facebook and many other apps that make me feel like my eReader is a small computer that I get to carry around with me. Below is a short list of pros and cons to help you better with your own reasoning on whether to purchase this product or not.

The pros include:

  • Color touch screen
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • Access to 2.5 million books
  • All the basic supporting functions like web, email and files
The cons include:
  • 8 hour battery life (other e-ink readers last about a month)
  • No access to the full Android app market
  • You can’t replace the battery yourself, it must be sent in
  • The processor could be faster

If you are on the market for just an e-reader I would recommend the Nook Simple Touch, which uses the e-ink technology but you have access to the Nookbook store and its 2.5 million books. The other alternative is to get a Kindle. If your looking for an all-purpose device connected to the apple app store, then the Ipad is for you. But my Nook Color continues to make me proud of my purchasing choice.

For the price of a device that shows images in color, video, and also functions as an e-reader the Nook Color is the best choice in my opinion. All in all this device functions exceptionally well and is reasonably priced, especially for all the features included.
