When you have serious dark circles under your eyes, you try out every concealer like it’s sample time at Costco. I’ve tried Bobbi Brown and Benefit. I’ve tried MAC and Maybelline. But all the seemingly promising concealers have been a little disappointing until now. Laura Mercier Secret Concealer has ended my sampling days, finally providing the long-lasting, perfect coverage I’ve been looking for.
I have my mom and dad to thank for the thin skin and deeply dark circles under my eyes. For a concealer to properly cover up my hereditary zombie eyes, it needs to provide the fullest coverage possible. Laura Mercier Secret Concealer is a highly-pigmented, moisture-rich cream that hides discolorations and brightens the under eye area.
The concentrated pigments ensure complete coverage without having to layer the product on too thickly. A little really does go a long way with this concealer; I only need to touch the product lightly with my ring finger to get all I need. Secret Concealer also feels surprisingly light–I can wear it alone without any foundation. I know you’re not really supposed to do that, but I do anyway because it blends so well with my skin.

This is also one of the more moisturizing concealers I’ve come across. It’s very creamy and glides on smoothly, nourishing the dry and sensitive under-eye area without creasing and settling into fine lines. That’s a big deal, because it’s hard to find a concealer that can do that. It’s also difficult to find a product that brightens the eye area without over-brightening it, giving you “reverse raccoon eyes” (yes, there’s actually a name for it because it happens so often). I don’t have to worry about that with this concealer; it’s brightening but not frightening. Secret Concealer comes in 6 different shades and they all blend well into a range of skin colors.
While I love the incredibly creamy consistency, the product can sometimes feel slightly sticky. If that’s a big concern for you, I find that when you set the concealer with a powder (like Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder) it makes everything feel weightless and even makes the concealer last longer.
A truly great beauty product will always come at a price, but this one isn’t as high as you might think. You can purchase a 2.2 gram pot of Secret Concealer for $22. While that is considerably more expensive than drug store concealers, the quality is so much better. And actually, Secret Concealer is priced on the lower end of concealers found at makeup counters.
After my long journey courting concealers, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer is the one I’m planning to settle down with. It brightens my eyes, brightens my outlook, and makes me happy without making my wallet sad.
