My long and seemingly endless search for the perfect drugstore mascara has finally come to an end– and at around $7 a pop, it’s gotta be love.
Finding a good balance between length and volume is usually an issue for me, and Rimmel has come out with a winner for all us gals with this problem.
Containing Rimmel’s special formula “Grow-Length Complex” designed to stimulate lash follicles and promote lash growth. Rimmel claims a 117% overall growth in length if used over 30 days, and 80% instantly. Now of course these numbers are entirely desirable, but not quite realistic. I have used this mascara for a little over a year, and I do think my natural lashes have benefited, as they are indeed longer than when I started using Rimmel’s Lash Accelerator Mascara. However, the more pertinent question is how it looks with the product actually on. If you’re looking for everyday length without the clump, this is a definite must-have. 1-2 coats of this will give your lashes that natural, sensual length that’s perfect for coy looks and batting practice.
The brush is long and thin, but it separates the lashes well and easily accesses those smaller, hard-to-reach, corner lashes. But as with all wands, it takes some getting used to the size and feel, so depending on what mascara you use now, it may take a bit until you’re comfortable using this brush and reaching those harder areas. Another thing I personally like about this mascara is that it comes off with ease instead of leaving rubbery residue on my skin after trying to take it off with water. No need for heavy-duty solutions to get this product off– it comes off cleanly and without hassle. And by the end of a long day when I’m washing my face, the less hassle, the better.
A few things to note with this mascara. If you’re looking for a mascara to give you those thick, falsies-look, this is not the mascara for you. Though it does act as a good primer under thickening mascara, so that you get both length and fullness. Also, the product does not last all day. By the end of the day, I still have some product on, but definitely less than what I started with. This personally isn’t an issue for me, but if you’re looking for an all day product, I would suggest going a little higher-end and trying Makeup Forever products.
Let’s break it down–
- natural, everyday length
- does promote natural lash growth
- good price, especially with drugstore deals
- brush separates lashes well
- easy to remove without heavy-duty makeup remover
- does not enhance volume
- wears out by the end of the day
- does not necessarily enhance lashes up to 80% instantly and 117% over 30 days
This is just a no-nonsense, sensible mascara for those of us who want an everyday mascara with a little added oomph in the length department. And for $7, it’s definitely worth a try.
