Dermatologist recommended Aveeno Active Naturals Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion – Fragrance Free, with soothing oat essence, is an excellent antidote to itchy, extra dry skin or sensitive skin.
This wonderful product comes in a 12 fl. oz. bottle. It contains natural colloidal oatmeal to help soothe irritation and redness, as well as shea butter extract, a well known moisturizer, and Dimethicone, a skin protectant. There is no added fragrance. Good news for sensitive skin. The Aveeno website also recommends it for the prevention or protection of “chaffed, chapped, or cracked skin.” I have discovered that this lotion is also excellent on sunburn, and will not sting.
Active Ingredients: Dimethicone (1.3%) (Skin Protectant)
Inactive Ingredients: Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract (Oat), Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour (Oat), Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Oil (Oat), Benzyl Alcohol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Extract (Shea Butter), Cetearyl Alcohol, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Isopropyl Palmitate, Petrolatum, Sodium Chloride, Steareth 20, Water
I found this product when I was getting desperate for a lotion that would provide excellent moisturizing for my very dry but also very sensitive skin. The Aveeno line is well known for its’ fragrance free gentleness, but this was the first time I had encountered a moisturizing lotion that really absorbed into my skin and made it feel soft without irritating it. Did I already mention that it absorbs beautifully? It does. From alligator rough to baby soft in about a minute. I even use this product as a facial moisturizer. I mix it with a drop of DHC Olive Virgin Oil. I dab it on and gently pat away the excess.
I had tried other moisturizers and lotions for sensitive skin over the years, such as Eucerin, Physicians Formula, and Neutrogena and was not impressed. They were either too greasy or they just did not give me enough moisture to soften or soothe my skin.
Aveeno’s Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion is most effective if applied when your skin is still damp from the shower, especially after shaving. However, if you over-apply, it can leave your skin feeling a little sticky. Aveeno also offers this product with added menthol, for a cooling sensation. However, I have avoided this, as I just don’t think it is necessary.
This product is readily available and not too expensive. You can find it at places like Fred Meyer or Bartells, as well as from the Aveeno website (which will re-direct you to drugstore.com for purchases), or Amazon. The 12 ounce size bottle retails around $7 to $9, depending on your location and the store. Watch for store coupons for savings.
