The fifth record from French progressive metal band Gojira, LEnfant Sauvage, will be released via Roadrunner Records on June 26th. Since their first release in 2001, Gojira have set themselves apart from their peers. Their music, known for their environmentally-friendly and spiritual themes has risen to the top tier in heavy music. The have yet to release an EP called Sea Shepherd where all proceeds will go to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, a group dedicated to marine conservation.

Gojira’s sound is hard to classify. Heavy metal music has become so dynamic and varied that it has become almost impossible to pigeonhole a band into generic categories. Gojira blends technical, thrash and progressive elements. Using a melodic style and unusual rhythm patterns, they create an atmosphere that is both euphoric and intense.

L’Enfant Sauvage is their most anticipated release to date following their newfound globally recognized status. Thus far they have released two songs off of L’Enfant Sauvage, called L’Enfant Sauvage (title track) and Liquid Fire. These songs exemplify the new direction taken by the band while honoring their humble roots. Both songs use higher chords and more melody creating an atmosphere that is both discordant and relaxing. Here is the official video for the title track L’Enfant Sauvage:

L’Enfant Sauvage translates to “The Wild Child” however the intention behind the title is said to be lost in translation. Joe Duplantier, singer and guitarist, explains that in French, “Sauvage” has a connotation of being something that is uneducated and free in nature. It is meant to indicate a base human nature, free of indoctrination, education and social norms. How all these factors change this inner, pure child is the theme they want to strike.

L’Enfant Sauvage was recorded at Spin Recording Studios in Long Island City, New York and co-prodcued with josh Wilber who has worked with bands such as Lamb of God. It is sure to be one of the best releases for heavy music in 2012.  As a leader in the new evolution of heavy music Le’fant Sauvage will not be a record to miss. Gojira will play two summer festivals: Sonisphere and Fuji Rock 2012. They will play alongside many other amazing musicians such as Radiohead, The Shins, Incubus, Marilyn Manson and Kiss. Afterwards, Gojira will head to North America for an extensive tour with both Lamb of God and Dethkolok. These shows are not shows you want to skip!
